eve is now doing the same thing for me, in vista, data execution prevention is preventing the game from loading. i know vista is not supported yet, but it needs to be, and soon... i believe this is cause by an exe not being digitally signed

the "boost" to your shields comes at the end of the cycle I believe, just like an armor repairer, so in a fight it helps to have it on, like the example given above.
